Peace History: Two courses at City Lit.

Thursday, 15 February, 2018 - 18:00 to 19:30

Two History Courses at City Lit:
1.Peace in the Shadows of World War
15th Feb – 15th March 2018. Five Thursdays, 6.00 pm – 7.30 pm.
After the ‘war to end wars’, how did the aims of the peace-builders in 1919 give way to the horrors of a second global conflict in 1939? This course explores peace movements in the inter-war years, focusing on Britain but including foreign policy and The League of Nations, the rise of fascism, disarmament conferences and Appeasement.

2.First Wave Feminists and the First World War
Saturday 17th March 10.30 – 3.30.
For four years British women were mobilised in unprecedented numbers to support the war effort, joining the civilian workforce, aiding recruitment and nursing the wounded. This course presents less familiar narratives of women who resisted the war, schisms within the suffrage movement, an international peace conference and concepts of equality that went beyond the vote.

Course tutor: Simon Colbeck (Watford Meeting). Both courses are at City Lit, Keeley Street WC2 (near Holborn tube station)
